Cashiers NC celebrates fall this weekend. The Cashiers Valley Leaf Festival will take place Friday, October 7 through Sunday, October 9 at the Village Green. This event draws thousands of visitors from all over and many return every year to enjoy a touch of autumn in the mountains. If you will be in the Highlands/Cashiers area this weekend you should make your way over to the Village Green for the festivities!

What is the Leaf Festival?

The Leaf Festival is a celebration that showcases a number of artisans and crafters from around the Southeast. The Cashiers Valley Leaf Festival is an annual event that has been occurring for 13 years, marking the start of the leaf-changing season. The variety of art runs the gamut, from jewelry, sculptures, and paintings to candles, soaps, and paintings. All of the artisans and crafters are on hand to show their work and speak with. Additionally, the festival features food trucks, face painting, and more!

Music too!

The Hometown Concert Series, sponsored by InglesSupermarket, is a highlight of the weekend. Friday night will feature Joe Lasher and Kaitlyn Baker from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. On Saturday, Ellie’s Groove performs at 11 a.m., George Reeves at 1 p.m., and Zorki at 3 p.m. Julie Gribble will hit the stage on Sunday at 11 a.m., followed by the Blue Ridge Junior Appalachian Musicians at 1 p.m. The festival will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and until 3 p.m. on Sunday.

Celebrate Independence Day in Cashiers NC. The 4th of July is full of fun on the Plateau. Of course, in Cashiers, The Green is the place to be! Here you will find music, food, family, friends, and fun. This year’s celebration will be more enjoyable than ever with COVID and quarantine slipping further into the rearview mirror! Whether you live in the Highlands/Cashiers area or are visiting, get out to the Village Green on Monday to enjoy the festivities.

What can you expect in Cashiers on the 4th?

The 4th of July Extravaganza will be free and open to the public. Bring a chair, blanket, and your favorite people to celebrate the 4th. There will be plenty of food on hand. Participating vendors include Wanderview (Charcuterie), Crossroad’s Custard (Frozen treats), and Highlands Wine Shoppe (Beer and Wine). Additionally, there will be great entertainment with performances by Continental Divide and The Victory Belles!

Cashiers NC offers a Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning. Let’s face it, most of us eat too much on Thanksgiving day. After all, that is what the day is about. Getting a little exercise and stretching your legs will help make you a little less guilty when you reach for that second piece of pie! Enjoy the morning with family and friends and run, jog, walk, or stroll while enjoying a little fresh mountain air. Gobble on the Green is a Thanksgiving tradition for many families from the Highlands/Cashiers area and once you participate once you will certainly make it a tradition too!

What: Gobble on the Green
Where: The Commons, Cashiers, NC
When: November 25, 8 am to noon

Early bird registration for Gobble On the Green 5K is $25 including a race t-shirt through November 10.  Late registration, including race day, is $30 with a t-shirt while supplies last. There will be a free 1-mile Fun Run for children ages 5-10 years at 9:30 a.m., registration is requested online or on Race Day. In fact, the fresh mountain air and natural beauty of the Highlands/Cashiers area are what draw visitors and residents alike. Sliding Rock Falls is a sweet spot to cool off and represents just one fun thing to do this summer.

What is Sliding Rock Falls?

Sliding Rock Falls is a favorite swimming hole. The sliding rock was created by the Chattooga River flowing over the rock. The slide pours fresh mountain water into a lovely pool with a sandy bottom. Sliding Rock Falls is easily accessible, a short 100-yard hike from the trailhead. This is a great spot for family fun in the Cashiers area, especially on a hot summer day.

The holiday spirit takes hold of Cashiers NC Saturday. The annual Cashiers Christmas Parade is a holiday tradition that locals and visitors alike look forward to each year. A true down-home event, this parade is all about community. From homemade floats to a community celebration following the parade, this is a fun way to ignite the holiday spirit and enjoy the Cashiers NC community.

What: Cashiers Christmas Parade
When: Saturday, December 14, at noon
Where: Cashiers Crossroads, ends at the Cashiers Community Center

Get out to the parade route early and get a spot to view this festive event. The 2019 theme is “All Things Bright & Beautiful, All Creatures Great & Small”. You are certain to see cars, animals, carolers, and Santa and Mrs. Claus, among the parade participants. After the parade you can enjoy the Community Luncheon hosted by Cashiers Cares with the help of Rotary. The luncheon will be at the Cashiers Community Center. Here you can also visit with Santa and visit with the Friends of the Library who will be gifting new books to children visiting Santa.

Cashiers NC celebrates antiques next week with the annual Fall Cashiers Antique Show. The show kicks off at 9 am on Thursday, August 29th , and runs through Saturday the 31st, closing at 5 pm. This annual event will be held at the Sapphire Valley Community Center this year. The show is typically held at High Hampton but the resort is still undergoing renovations. Join people from far and near to kick off Labor Day Weekend with a little shopping for your Cashiers NC home!

What can you expect to see at the Fall Cashiers Antique Show?

Aside from some unique finds, you will meet experienced antique dealers. The antique dealers who will be present are experienced, loving to share their knowledge of treasured pieces of history. Groovin’ on the Green in Cashiers NC Friday. This weekly outdoor music series is a favorite summer event for many. What a great way to end the week, joining the Cashiers community to hear fantastic music in the fresh mountain air. Groovin’ on the Green takes place each Friday all summer long.

What can you expect from Groovin’ on the Green?

Groovin’ on the Green starts at 6:30 pm each Friday. The seating is on the lawn, so bring a blanket or a chair. You can also pack a picnic! The Village Green Commons is a favorite spot in the Cashiers NC community, hosting a number of events throughout the summer season. Tomorrow, Friday, June 21, the band featured is Porch 40, a local favorite band that plays great rock music.

Cashiers NC hosts Art for a Cause this weekend. Saturday and Sunday, May 25 and 26, art will be showcased on the Cashiers Village Green. Art for a Cause takes place twice a year, hosted by the Rotary Club of Cashiers Valley. This is a great opportunity to see local talent as well as talent from across the nation.

What: Art for a Cause
When: Saturday and Sunday, May 25 & 26
Where: Cashiers Village Green
Time: 10 am to 5 pm

Art for a Cause raises money for the underserved in the Cashiers NC community. This fabulous event features one-of-a-kind creations, perfect for unique gifts or perhaps something special for your home. There will be great variety. You expect to see paintings, sculptures, jewelry, quilts, handmade soaps, and so much more! Admission is free but a suggested donation of $3 to $5 is appreciated.

A percentage of the proceeds from Art for a Cause will benefit many local charities, non-profit organizations, community projects and scholarship recipients supported by the Rotary club. However, this year’s signature recipient is CART, the Coins for Alzheimer’s Research Trust Fund. All of the donations to CART go to fund cutting edge research to cure Alzheimer’s disease. Get out to the Village Green in Cashiers NC this weekend, enjoy some great creative energy and help the community out at the same time.

The Cashiers NC Christmas Parade takes place this Saturday. The time-honored tradition has been a community favorite for decades and this year marks the parade’s 44th year. Each year has a theme and this year is no exception with the theme “Over the River and Through the Woodes”. The 2018 Cashiers Christmas Parade is paying homage to the 100th anniversary for Camp Merrie-Woode.

 

Christmas traditions matter in the Highlands and Cashiers NC area, where the lighting of the Christmas Tree, breakfast with Santa, and Carolers are but a part of the holiday festivities each year. Last Saturday marked the Highlands Christmas Parade and this Saturday, December 8, the Cashiers Christmas Parade will kick off at noon.

What can you expect from the Cashiers NC Christmas Parade?

Plan on fabulous homemade floats, antique cars, a high school marching band, carolers, animals, and so much more. This fun event is one the Cashiers NC community looks forward to each year and is enjoyed by all ages. After the parade enjoy the annual Cashiers Cares Luncheon and a meet and greet with Santa.
