Cashiers NC celebrates Heritage Apples Saturday. Heritage Apple Day will take place Saturday, March 10, from 11 am to 1 pm at the Cashiers Community Center. This fun event is for the whole family. Sponsored by the Cashiers Historical Society the 2018 Heritage Apple Day celebrates the horticulture history of our area.
Heritage Apple Day embraces the opportunity for the Cashiers NC community to learn about the apple varieties that have flourished in our mountain area for years. As aging trees die there is a need to preserve this rich heritage. Attendees will learn about grafting trees as well as how to foster new growth and new varieties.
What should you bring? If you are interested in growing more trees and helping apple trees continue to thrive in the Highlands/Cashiers area then bring a scion, young shoots or twigs from an apple tree. You will learn how to graft the scion onto rootstocks which will be provided to you at no charge.Then you can plant your rootstock on your Cashiers NC property.
